Residency Permit (Iqama) — Full Guide

Kuwait residency (Iqama) is issued by the Ministry of Interior (MOI). All expats must hold a valid residency permit at all times.

  4. 4Book and attend biometric appointment via Sahel app or MOI eServices.
  5. 5Collect your residency sticker (pasted in passport). Apply for Civil ID within 30 days.

Renewing Your Residency Permit
Renew before expiry — fines apply for overstay
  1. 1Check your iqama expiry via Sahel app → My Data → Residency.
  2. 2Your employer/PRO initiates renewal via MOI eServices ideally 30–60 days before expiry.
  3. 3Attend a new biometric appointment if it has been more than 5 years.
  4. 4Pay renewal fee and collect updated residency sticker.
  5. 5Renew your Civil ID at PACI immediately after — it must match residency expiry.

Minimum KD 800/month salary required
  1. 1Minimum salary of KD 800/month required to sponsor spouse and children. Certain professions are exempt — check with your PRO.
  2. 2Apply via MOI eServices for a family visit visa (KD 10/month, max 1 year), then convert to family residency on arrival.
  3. 3Submit attested marriage certificate (home country Embassy → Kuwait Embassy). For children: attested birth certificate.
  4. 4Each family member requires health insurance before the iqama is processed.

Civil ID (PACI) — Apply, Renew & Check

Civil ID (Bitaqa Al-Madaniya) is your most important document in Kuwait. Issued by PACI — required for banking, driving, and virtually everything.

  2. 2Your employer/sponsor applies on your behalf via PACI eServices with your passport, iqama sticker and photos.
  3. 3Attend a PACI office for biometric enrollment (fingerprint + photo). Book via Sahel app → PACI services.
  4. 4Collect Civil ID when status shows "Ready for Collection" on paci.gov.kw or Sahel.

How to Register & Use Sahel in English
Step-by-step — Android & iPhone
  1. 1Download Kuwait Mobile ID from Play Store or App Store — this is required for login authentication.
  2. 2Download Sahel — search "Sahel Kuwait" or "سهل".
  3. 3Open Sahel → tap the language button on the home screen → select English before doing anything else.
  4. 4Enter your Civil ID number, accept terms, tap Submit.
  5. 5A notification appears in Kuwait Mobile ID. Open it, authenticate (fingerprint/PIN), tap Approve.
  6. 6Return to Sahel → tap OK. You are now logged in. Always log out after each session.

If Sahel is not working: (1) update both apps, (2) ensure Kuwait Mobile ID is active, (3) call 101 (Wasil Government Help).
